In this summary I would include some of the important aspects of the reading of chapter three which it focus on the importance about computers potential. In this part of the reading you would look at some aspects such as hypertext, hypermedia, multimedia, science fiction and CALL, the printed book and CALL. At the beginning of the readings you would see some explanation about some importance that computers can be helpful such as: hypertext, which refers to links that can access numerous types of material, for example, educational material such as course syllabi and resources, explanatory notes for a Web-based document, sources for references, explanatory notes, links to other relevant resources or publications, graphics, sound, video. Hypermedia it refers to information linked together in an easily accessible way. The Internet thrives on hypermedia and allows videos to be linked to graphic buttons or text and other content found to be accessible simply with a mouse click. Hypermedia is more a method for accessing available information, which is the end result. Multimedia is simply multiple forms of media integrated together. Media can be text, graphics, audio, animation, video, data, etc. An example of multimedia is a web page on the topic of Mozart that has text regarding the composer along with an audio file of some of his music and can even include a video of his music being played in a hall. Science fiction and CALL is focus on how computers had and steel have been an important impact in learning, some examples of this we could say the printed book and CALL it gave an important impact on how you can share your ideas and also it is an easy way to consult it with out having to buy the book. Difference between multimedia and hypermedia: Multimedia is the integration of multiple forms of media. This includes text, graphics, audio, video, etc. For example, a presentation involving audio and video clips would be considered a "multimedia presentation." Hypermedia, include links among any set of multimedia objects, including sound, motion video, and virtual reality.
Examples The IWB can be used for many things in the language learning classroom, for example the teacher can use Mimio and the eBeam programs, the ActivBoard to built-in templates and resources, and the SMART Board. So me examples of the uses of the IWB could be: • that it s useful to save lessons to students who were absent. • create video files to teach a software application, a lesson, or as a review to be posted to the server or web. • Example how to crate a graph in excel or how to burn a project to a CD. Present presentations created by students or teacher. Discussion Boards can be used in the language classroom for: • Directed discussions, which invites students to discuss a specific topic or item. • Debates, the teacher can divide students into two groups and make them research different topics and argue about their research. • Critiques provide students with feedback on their projects. Skype can be used in the language classroom to: • Videoconferencing in the Classroom with Skype. The teacher uses a movie help teach about a certain topic, and is able to get the executive producer of the movie, Gordon Quinn, to participate in a Skype session with her class. • After school help. Use Skype as a tool to provide after school help to students needing extra attention. Tutors, teachers, or librarians can be available at set times in the afternoons for student access. • Interviews. whether you have students conducting interviews or your class is interviewed, Skype facilitates the interview process. Individual students can interview other teachers or school staff, sending the Skype feed to the classroom for all to watch. Wikis in the language classroom can be used to create: • Micropedia, to create a mini encyclopedia of terms. • Branching Story, by giving a writing prompt, students generate pages to build a “create your own adventure” story. • Exegesis: Students are given a poem or prose passage on the wiki. Students create hyperlinks within the text to pages which give more information about a particular word or phrase.
Blogs can be used in a language classroom to: • Provide examples of class work, vocabulary activities, or grammar games. • Post class related information such as calendars, events, homework assignments and other class information. • To discuss activities they did in the class and tell what they think about them.
